Get Involved
There are endless ways you may get involved! Below are a few examples of how you may begin helping fight against Alzheimer's Disease.
Go out into your community and make a difference!
- Volunteer at your local Nursing home. Many nursing homes have specific halls for those suffering from mental illnesses, including Alzheimer's. Call up ahead of time to find out the best way to volunteer your services. If you have any talents, consider performing for the residents! Even if you don't have any type of talent or don't feel confident in that, there are always ways you may assist with activities, talking with residents, reading to residents, and endless other opportunities.
- Set up a local event to raise money. Contact local venues and request donations to support your fundraiser. There are a wide variety of opportunities ranging from a lemonade stand to a full out gala to raise money for the fight. Be creative with it, employ your family and friends, involve the community, and have fun with it!
- Attend a local walk or other event. Every year the Alzheimer's Organization puts on walks to benefit the non-profit around the U.S. Visit their website for more information.
- Spread Awareness. Even the simple act of learning your facts and educating others is enough to help make a difference. Unlike other diseases, Alzheimer's tends to be a lesser known disease. With figures such as it being the 6th leading cause of death in the U.S. and of the top 10, it being the only disease without a cure, educating the public is an absolute necessity!
